Summertime with
Lizzie B. Hayes, Second Edition

“RIIIIIIIINNNG!!!” The final bell of the school year shrieks and the neighborhood fills with excitement! Eight-year-old Lizzie B. Hayes, along with her cousins, Shu Shu and Mookie, can’t wait to kick off their summer of nonstop fun with all the other kids. Always wanting to be the center of attention, Lizzie is up to her usual antics and has several tricks up her sleeves to guarantee that all eyes are on her. But this summer is different! Just as Lizzie gears up for a summer filled with jump rope contests, shooting hoops, trips to the local library, and of course, roller skating at breakneck speeds, she begins to hear rumors of trouble brewing in her city. To make matters worse, Lizzie’s father plans to take her on a two-week vacation down south, South Philadelphia that is, and now she is faced with leaving everyone she loves for the first time. When she comes back, everything has changed. Set during the summer of 1967, “Summertime with Lizzie B. Hayes” follows an array of amusingly lovable characters as they live through one of the most turbulent times in the country’s history.

KP decided to write the second edition to give readers a deeper understanding of life in the 1960s through the innocent eyes of a child. Her hope is that the book will inspire readers to do further research about the significant time period.

Lizzie B. Hayes and the Great Camp Caper, Second Edition

Lizzie B. Hayes and the Great Camp Caper, is a middle-grade children's fiction chapter book. It is the second book in the popular Lizzie B. Hayes series. Through historical fiction, KP Carter shares childhood coming of age stories about life in the 1960s.

Thanks to her mother's tenacity and salesmanship, Lizzie wins a Girl Scout Cookie contest. The prize is an all-expense-paid two-week camp trip. For the first time, Lizzie must learn to care for herself without the protection of her loving family. While waiting to board the bus to Camp Chicktawanga, Lizzie encounters one of the grouchiest girls she has ever met. After just one look at the "sour-lemon sucking face" girl, Lizzie decides to stay out of her way. Unfortunately, Lizzie and Coco end up sharing a cabin. Trouble begins the moment Lizzie, Coco, and the other two cabin mates head up the dusty trail to the last cabin on the left. As soon as they reach the cabin, Coco starts to bully Lizzie. On the way to an overnight hike, Lizzie and Coco get separated from the rest of the campers and may have to spend the night in the woods.

Will Lizzie and Coco work together to survive in the wilderness? What is the real reason Coco bullies everyone - especially Lizzie?

KP wrote the second edition to help readers gain a deeper perspective about managing emotions, bullying, and how to deal with inappropriate behavior.
