10 STEPS TO READING SUCCESS - STEP 5 – VISIT THE LIBRARY
“Hurry up! The library closes in an hour and we have to return our books and check out new ones. I don’t want to pay another fine!”
“Mommy, I’m looking for one of the books. I hope I didn’t leave it in my locker at school.”
“I hope not!”

8 Reasons to Visit the Library
1. Books, books, books – Are you looking for mystery, biography, fantasy or some other genre? Want to learn something new? Then the library is the place.
2. Children love the library – It is a magical place. Contests and story time are fun engaging activities. Music and movies fill the shelves. It is also an opportunity to meet new people.
3. Regular visits promote regular reading – Allow your child to browse through the shelves on their and find books that interest them. When children read books of interest, they are inclined to spend more time reading on a regular basis.
4. A Library card is a responsibility – When your child signs up for the little plastic card, it helps them become trustworthy and how to properly care for items that they borrow.
5.Computers and WiFi are usually free – Is your home internet access down? Does your child have to do research for a school project? The library is the place to be.
6. The library is a quiet place to work – It is the perfect place for anyone who needs quiet and often gets distracted at home.
7. Librarians are the best– Your librarian may possibly be the smartest person you know, and they’re there to help. They can recommend books within your child's interest range, help with research material, and answer all kinds of questions.
8. Support for the local library keeps it open - Your library belongs to local or state government and relies on government funding. If a library isn’t used and/or doesn’t receive funding, it can lose funding. Without money, libraries can’t purchase books or fund activities which can cause a loss of patrons. Once people stop visiting libraries, there’s no reason to keep them open.
