Meet Kathryn Carter
Kathryn P. Carter, M.Ed.,The World's ONLY Readologist– is a lifelong educator. During her 35-year career in education, she served children, colleagues and families in various roles including Director of Language Arts and Testing, Reading Specialist, and Supervisor.
A highly sought after TEDx speaker, Kathryn is an education consultant, award winning children's author, and creator of the Rockstar Reader University. Her goal is to elevate, energize and encourage through addressing the needs of the whole child to be successful readers in school and beyond.
She is the author of the Lizzie B. Hayes children’s trilogy about a precocious eight-year-old and three generations of her colorful family. The historical fiction middle grade books are just right for inquisitive children ages 8-12. Book 1 of the trilogy, Summertime with Lizzie B. Hayes, Second Edition received the 2023 Children's Book Award sponsored by the National Black Book Festival.
Owner of KP Carter Writes LLC and creator of Rockstar Reader University, Kathryn’s mission is to bridge children's literacy gaps, immerse children in culturally responsive literature, address the needs of the whole child, and provide strategies and tips to place children on the path to success. Kathryn is available for author visits, make keynote speeches on a variety of literacy topics and conduct workshops for parents and educators about effective ways to boost children's literacy skills and outcomes.

From an early age, Kathryn knew she would be a teacher. She majored in education at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina. Kathryn graduated with honors and earned a B.A. After graduation, she spent an entire year as a per diem substitute teacher. The experience fueled Kathryn's passion to use literacy as a tool to change children's lives.
She was determined to further her education and improve students' academic outcomes. Kathryn applied for and was awarded a full fellowship in the Reading Specialist program at Kutztown State University in Kutztown, Pennsylvania where she earned a M.Ed.
A lifelong learner, she also earned Principal and Supervisor certifications.
Current Work
Kathryn is working on her third book Lizzie B. Hayes on a Mission. In the culmination of the trilogy, readers follow lovable Lizzie into junior high school during 1970. Get ready for the pre-order campaign, book launch parties, sneak peeks, and much more. A 2025 release is planned. Her signature ground-breaking program, Rockstar Reader University, supports the literacy needs of students, families, and the wider community. RRU addresses the needs of the whole child by nurturing self-esteem, boosting confidence and sharing culturally responsive literature . Parents enrolled in RRU learn specific tips and strategies to enhance children's literacy in school and beyond.



Personal Life
She is the mother of two amazing adult sons. A native of New Jersey, she currently resides in North Carolina. Her days are filled with writing books, tutoring children, conducting author visits, and supporting parents and school districts. Kathryn's home library book cases are brimming with mysteries, children's books, science fiction, professional literature, and biographies. Swimming, dancing, and playing her viola are at the heart of Kathryn's active lifestyle. She is deeply connected to several causes including volunteering at church, in the community and her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.. Travel, music, swimming and fun with family and friends bring joy to her life.
