I was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Newark, New Jersey. My love of reading comes from my maternal grandmother and my mother.
When I was in 2nd grade, I learned to write in cursive and wrote my name on the school picture before I took it home!
For the first ten years of my life, my mom and I lived with our extended family. Our home was full of love and laughter just like Lizzie's.
I always had the heart of a teacher. At the end of the school day, I would rush home, line up my dolls, and teach them what I had learned in class.
Eventually, my love of learning and reading led me to become a classroom teacher, reading specialist, and school administrator in Northern New Jersey public schools. Some of my fondest memories of a career that spans 35 years include the twinkle in the eyes of a child as they read their favorite book.
Through my company, KP Carter Writes LLC, I present workshops for parents to promote literacy in the home. Writing and researching children's books is my passion.
I live in New Jersey and have two adult sons. No grands yet, but I'm hopeful!
